Transition Project

Prearrival support

General information on studying at the University of Southampton as well as a prearrival checklist and information on enrolment procedures is available on the Southampton Welcome website.

The Transition Project has funded two pre arrival websites for prospective students in 2011/12 in the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences. The aim of the web pages is to motivate and better prepare students for life in the Faculty. It is also hoped that it will help to relieve any prearrival anxieties or any shock that some students experience when starting their course at University. Both websites were available for new students in summer 2012.

Learn with US  is a programme developed by the University Recruitment and Outreach Team to help bridge the gap between sixth form and university study. The programme is designed to stretch and  challenge students  in further education and support the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) through lectures, seminars, academic skills workshops and think tank contests based upon current research.

The Access to Southampton (A2S) scheme run by the University Recruitment and Outreach Team supports students from non-traditional backgrounds with potential to perform well at university and prepares them  for university study.

Once applicants have received an offer from University of Southampton and have accepted it, they need to attend a one day Academic Skills Event which includes:

As part of A2S, students are also assigned an online mentor to help them prepare for university. The interactions take place through a specifically designed virtual learning environment developed by UNIAID.
