Dr Richard Guest

Dr Richard Guest received his PhD in 2000 and is currently Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Kent. He has extensive research experience in automated biometric and forensic systems, specialising in the area of image and behavioural information analysis and standardisation.  At present Richard has over 80 peer-reviewed publications and funding from EPSRC, EU, IPS, charitable funds and industry as well as having a significant involvement with standards development.

Richard's primary research area is in biometric systems from a Computer Science/Engineering perspective.  Specifically, he focuses on the technical implementation of biometric solutions and on novel biometrics in terms of modalities and applications.  Recently these interests have taken the form of adaptive systems using operational “meta-data” (such as environmental and additional subject-related or task-related data) which can be used to enhance the identification or verification process.  Richard also has expertise in the assessment of biometric data quality, and user interaction with biometrics systems.

With extensive experience of biometrics, Richard will help to drive the computer-based recognition systems to be developed as part of the project.
