Carbon Management

We’re taking action through a Carbon Management Plan to address our carbon emissions.

In 2011 the University Council approved a target to reduce our carbon emissions by 2020 (based on a 2005/06 baseline).

Our students and academics actively contribute to our understanding and ability to adapt to climate change and global warming; notably through our interdisciplinary research on climate change, energy and the impact on the marine environment. Through our research we will lead the way to help society adapt to the challenge of climate change.

Energy efficiency improvements and carbon reduction initiatives are supported through a dedicated fund. Our carbon management plan projects include improvements to mechanical and electrical systems such as lighting, heating and insulation, or behaviour change projects seeking to engage staff and students in initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint. You can email any project ideas to us.
