CMP011 Energy Centre Boiler Burners

CMP011 Energy Centre Boiler Burners
Energy Centre Main Boilers

The Energy Centre contains the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, which burns gas to generate both electricity and heat which can then be used in buildings across Highfield campus.

In addition to the CHP, the Energy Centre can also generate heat by operating six backup boilers. Each boiler contains a burner which controls the rate of combustion and the installed burners in the Energy Centre were found to be inefficient. This project replaced them with new units which burn gas more efficiently and release fewer CO2 emissions.

The project resulted in an annual saving of 1,727,000kWh, £53,000 and 320 tonnes/CO2.
