Air Handling Units (AHUs) supply heating, ventilation and air conditioning to buildings. The AHUs in Building 53 are particularly high consumers of electricity, as the fans also maintain positive air pressures in some rooms to prevent airborne contaminants from being drawn in. This project reduced the air pressure in areas that were not in use. As a result, the speed of the main AHUs could be reduced which produced substantial energy savings.
This project has produced annual savings of 328,000kWh, £33,000 and 170 tonnes/CO 2 .
