Student Poster Award EGU Conference
Third year Geography student.
Larisa Vircavs (a current third year student) was one of over 11,000 international geoscientists that attended the prestigious European Geosciences Union Annual Congress from the 22nd to the 27th April 2012 in Vienna, Austria. Here she presented research she undertook during an EPSRC funded summer bursary in 2011, supervised by Dr. Joanna Nield, where she quantified the relationship between surface roughness and aerodynamic roughness using high resolution terrestrial laser scanning data. Aerodynamic roughness is a key parameter required in energy balance modelling and its quantification enables the prediction of glacial ablation or melting rates. Her presentation was nominated for the EGU Geomorphology Division’s Outstanding Student Poster award.
