Forestry scientist specialising in carbon reduction

We are looking for you:

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Bogor is looking for your expertise to support research activities on greenhouse gas emissions in agroforestry systems. Since 2011, CIFOR has been involved in the issue in the framework of the ASEAN-Swiss Partnership on Social Forestry and Climate Change (ASFCC). CIFOR Indonesia is looking to step up its research activities in the field of carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions in forestry and agroforestry ecosystems to help further develop the national strategy for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD). This will involve close cooperation with GIZ's forest protection and climate change programme.

Your job will involve:

• Developing and conducting research activities on carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions in agroforestry systems
• Introducing innovative methods of measuring carbon levels and greenhouse gas emissions in agroforestry systems
• Setting up a carbon measurement laboratory
• Developing and running training courses, particularly on measuring carbon in the field and the laboratory
• Supporting fund-raising initiatives

Your profile:

 

• A doctorate in forest science or other relevant field, focusing on carbon sequestration in forest ecosystems
• Several years' experience of research into greenhouse gas capture and emissions within forestry and agroforestry ecosystems
• An in-depth knowledge of climate change mitigation funding mechanisms, particularly REDD
• The ability to advise on setting up a state-of-the-art laboratory for measuring carbon levels, including those in soil
• A sound working knowledge of English and a readiness to learn the basics of Bahasa Indonesia.
