Event details

Call for participants: Applications are invited to attend a town meeting to discuss the NERC, ESRC, EPSRC, BBSRC and AHRC Droughts and Water Scarcity programme. (Registration Closing Date: 28-09-2012)

Registration closing date: 28 September 2012

Applications are invited to attend a 'town meeting' to discuss the UK Droughts & Water Scarcity programme.

The programme aims to attract bids for several interdisciplinary research consortia. Funding from some partners is still to be confirmed, but it is hoped that the total budget for the programme will be c. £12m.

The current plan is to have two principle work packages:

  • 1. Climatology of past droughts and predicting future droughts
  • 2. Drivers, impacts and responses to droughts as they relate to social, natural, physical and agricultural systems

The town meeting

The aim of the town meeting is to bring together funders, key stakeholders and academics representative of the NERC, ESRC, EPSRC, BBSRC and AHRC research communities. The one-day meeting will consist of a short plenary session, and presentation of the draft of the first announcement of opportunity for discussion. There will also be planned sessions to facilitate cross-disciplinary discussion of the programme and networking.

The meeting will be held on Monday 15 October 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham. The meeting will start at 10:00 (tea/coffee and registration from 09:30), and will conclude by 16:00. Lunch will be provided.

How to Apply:

Please register to attend the workshop by completing the online registration form as soon as possible. Registration will close at 16:00 on 28 September 2012.
