SSS is committed to expanding the opportunities it can offer to postgraduate and undergraduate students through preparing our students for their future by seeking to create personalisation, develop opportunity, open up learning in sustainability science and by providing our graduates with the necessary skill set to tackle some of society's major multi-faceted challenges (including adapting to climate change, energy, the ageing population, high-tech crime and lifestyle diseases).
SSS wishes to open up learning across the three pillars of sustainability science- ecology, economics and society- and enable students to engage in the world of sustainability as managers, leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals in business, non-profit, and government organizations. With an emphasis on active learning and seeing interconnections, SSS offers the following teaching and education opportunities:
There is a monthly PhD group colloquium in Geography & Environment wherein PhD students present and discuss their research as it progresses. All PhD students working on subjects related to the ESRC DTC theme of ‘Energy Environment and Resilience' are welcome to join us. Please email e.l.tompkins@soton.ac.uk to sign up to the group mailing list.
If you are interested in studying sustainability science at Southampton there are a wide range of modules you can access across the campus, including two innovative Curriculum Innovation Programme modules Living with Environmental Change and Global Challenges.
All faculty, post-docs and PhD students are invited to the monthly meeting of the 'Human dimensions of Resilience, Adaptation and Vulnerability' DISCUSSION GROUP.
