EU Horizon 2020 Funding Call Opens

Published: 11 December 2013

Today the new Horizon funding programme was launched, encompassing the next 7 years of EU research funding.

In response to this, the Sustainability Science research group held a meeting to help researchers prepare for the funding calls. The chairs of the group have been working on draft documents circulated to the academic community in order to help members prepare for the funding opportunities.

A large portion of the overall funding budget has earmarked for tackling seven societal challenges:

  • Health, demographic change and wellbeing;
  • Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research, and the Bioeconomy;
  • Secure, clean and efficient energy;
    Smart, green and integrated transport;
  • Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials;
  • Europe in a changing world - inclusive, innovative and reflective societies;
  • Secure societies - protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens.

Given the breadth of expertise in Southampton, it is expected that there will be interest in a number of different areas. Find out more about how Sustainability Science and the University EU Office can support you in responding to the funding calls.

The first calls close in April 2014, so now is the time to be forming consortia, and getting ideas together. There are also calls that close later in the year, and in 2015.
