Sustainability Action has won funding from the University’s Education Enhancement Fund to deliver the first student sustainability research symposium in April 2016.

The ‘Educating Global Citizens’ symposium is an academic conference designed for students and with students. Undergraduate students from across the UK can be involved in a number of different ways, including:

  • Applying for a paid internship to help organise the first event of this kind. More details here.
  • Presenting your research. At the beginning of 2016 we will be putting a call out for submissions across eight streams covering the breadth of social, cultural, economic and environmental sustainability issues:
    • technology;
    • engineering;
    • arts and humanities;
    • science;
    • health sciences;
    • social sciences;
    • business and law;
    • international sustainability.
  • Joining the student scientific committee to assess the student presentation submissions.
  • Attending this free event with over 100 of your peers.
  • Using creative skills to capture the event through film, drawings, social media.

The best papers will be published in post-event in a symposium proceedings available for free online, as well as winning conference prizes.

This symposium provides a range of unique CV opportunities for students, from academic presentations to practical experience of filming events; look out for more news on how to take up these opportunities soon.

Can staff get involved?

This event is for students, but if you are interested in being involved please email Julia Kendal, Sustainability Action Officer. Please pass on details of this event to any students you think might be interested.

More news coming soon about the event. In the meantime, keep up to date or get in touch on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using #SotonGlobalCitizens16.
