3D-Printed Metal Bridge: Call for Research Champion and ideas for research projects

The Turing’s data-centric engineering programme is now seeking out a Research Champion and ideas from researchers for projects to utilise the data that will be collected from the world’s first 3D-printed steel bridge.

Who can apply?

This Call is aimed at PhD students and/or early career researchers.

Key Dates

Submissions must be received by 31 October 2019.

Key Information

The smart bridge, a 12 m long metal 3D printed stainless steel bridge, will be installed over a canal in the centre of Amsterdam early 2020. A sensor network has been installed on the bridge to monitor structural behaviour over time.

The bridge has the following sensors installed:

The data collected could be used for the following purposes, amongst others:

More details about the project can be found here.

Further Information

We welcome ideas for projects to utilise the dataset and expressions of interest for the Research Champion role. The champion will lead on the development of an impactful portfolio of research projects in this area. There is an opportunity for further funding to support this.

If you are interested to get involved, please send a short description of your research interests related to the dataset, and indicate if you would like to be considered for the Research Champion role, to rbabb@turing.ac.uk by 31st October at the latest.
