I chose this University because it is in the top 1% of universities in the world* with record of excellence in education and research. My degree will help me get a promotion within my organisation. Also as a practicing Midwife, I hope to use it to influence change within the healthcare system in my home country through colleagues and render better care to my clients.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Southampton?

I chose this University because it is in the top 1% of universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2018)* with record of excellence in education and research.

What do you enjoy the most about living in Southampton?

I enjoy shopping in Portswood and the City centre with friends.

If you had any difficulties during your studies, how did you overcome them?

I discuss it with my module lead, mates and friends who do their best to explain it to me. I sometimes go window shopping to get my mind off academic stress.

What will you do with your degree after you have finished your studies?

My degree will help me get a promotion within my organisation.  Also as a practicing Midwife, I hope to use it to influence change within the healthcare system in my home country through colleagues and render better care to my clients.

Did you receive a scholarship for your studies?

Yes. The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship. This scholarship is very important to me because without it I would not have been able to study in the University of Southampton. Because of this scholarship I do not worry about money issues which would have affected my studies.

If you could give your past-self one piece of advice about coming to study in Southampton, what would it be?

I would have prepared myself for the culture shock. Both academic and social. The academic structure of the university is entirely different from my home country.

Would you recommend the University of Southampton to students from your home country?

Yes. Because it is a top class university with student friendly and secured environment. Also the staff are very professional and the university has good resources.

What were your first impressions of the University of Southampton?

The environment was beautiful with advanced architecture as compared to my country and the mystery of how the buildings were numbered it was hard to navigate.

What has been your proudest accomplishment while you were in Southampton?

My academic writing has really improved. Also making friends from different countries.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Being on the scholarship and the experience I have had in this university has made me appreciate the contribution of Commonwealth shared scholarship towards the professional development of scholars from developing countries.
