Entry requirements

This information is for general guidance only; entry requirements vary for different courses. For more specific details, please visit the relevant course web page or contact the admissions office for your chosen subject area.

Foundation year entry requirements 

International Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate degree in management, humanities, arts and social sciences) General Secondary Certificate (Al Thanawiya Al Aama), achieving an overall average of 85% with at least 85% in subjects relevant to the chosen undergraduate course
Engineering Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in engineering, physics, computer science and geophysics) General Secondary Certificate (Al Thanawiya Al Aama), achieving an overall average of 85% with at least 85% in maths and physics.
Science Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in biology, chemistry and other science-related courses)

General Secondary Certificate (Al Thanawiya Al Aama), achieving an overall average of 85% with at least 85% in maths and a science subject

Please note that this course does not progress to an undergraduate degree in medicine.

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, you will need:

High grades in UK A levels  
Between 28 and 38 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB) 
Recognised foundation courses taken in the UK, Australia and Canada 

Postgraduate entry requirements

Masters programmes

Bachelors degree awarded by a recognised institution

UK 1st equivalent: 3.65 out of 4.0 or 85%-100%; 4.5 out of 5.0 or 85 -100%

UK 2.1 equivalent: 3.0 out of 4.0 or 76%-85%; 3.75 out of 5.0 or 80-85%

Students who have achieved a GPA 2.80 out of 4.0 or 3.5 out of 5.0 with 2 years' work experience may be considered

PhD programmes Good grades in bachelors and masters degrees awarded by a recognised university, and a strong research proposal

English language entry requirements

The Saudi Arabian student community

We are pleased to welcome students from Saudi Arabia to the University each year. In 2016/17 we have 162 Saudi Arabian students studying with us.

Student-run clubs and societies

Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by the University's Students' Union (SUSU) for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups. You may be interested in joining Southampton University Islamic Society and can find out more on the Isoc Southampton Facebook page.

Having a family is another reason for deciding to live in Southampton. The quiet and safe environment in some parts of the city makes life more stable and secure for an international family. Southampton also has a very active Saudi Society that makes it even easier to live here for a long period.
