Entry requirements

This information is for general guidance only; entry requirements vary for different courses. For more specific details, please visit the relevant course web page or contact the admissions office for your chosen subject area.

Foundation year entry requirements

If you do not have the traditional entry requirements for our undergraduate courses, you may be able to qualify by doing one of our foundation programmes first. To find out more, visit our foundation years page or contact the International Office team

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, you will need:

Diplomas awarded by Provinces and Territories on completion of Grade 12 will be considered for entry. We typically require students to achieve a minimum of 81% overall from 5 or 6 subjects at Grade 12. Entry requirements may vary depending on the province and the chosen undergraduate course.

Alternatively, we also consider the following qualifications for entry onto our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees:

International Baccalaureate - 30 - 36 points

Postgraduate entry requirements

 

Masters Programmes

 Bachelors degree from an institution accredited by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada equivalent to a UK 2.1. Professional  degrees such as Law or Engineering should be accredited by the relevant Canadian authorities

 UK 1st degree equivalent: A, 80%, GPA 3.5/4.0, 3.7/4.3, GPA 3.67/4.33, GPA 3.75/4.5, Grade 7/9, Grade 8/10, Grade 10/12

 UK 2.1 degree equivalent: B, 73%, GPA 3.0/4.0, GPA 3.0/4.3, GPA 3.00/4.33, GPA 3.0/4.5, Grade 5/9, Grade 6/10, Grade 8/12

PHD Programmes

 Good grades in bachelors and masters degrees awarded by a recognised university, and a strong research proposal

English language entry requirements

Students from Canada do not need to take an English language test to demonstrate their level of English Language proficiency. Find out more about our English language requirements and support.

The Canadian student community

We are pleased to welcome students from Canada to the University each year. We currently have 76 Canadian students studying with us, 50 of whom study within Southampton Law School.

Student-run clubs and societies

Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by the University's Students' Union (SUSU) for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups.
