Mr Jacob Hollebon

Jacob Hollebon is a Researcher at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Jacob graduated from the University of Warwick in July 2017 with a BSc in Physics. He then completed the MSc in Acoustical Engineering at the University of Southampton in September 2018, with a thesis on spatial audio reproduction for multiple listeners. The MSc thesis involved designing, building and analysing the performance of a multiple listener crosstalk cancellation system using linear loudspeaker arrays, with application to a cinema. In October 2018, he joined the Virtual Acoustics and Audio Engineering (VAAE) group to begin a PhD in signal processing techniques for loudspeaker based spatial audio reproduction under the supervision of Professor Filippo Maria Fazi. Jacob is now supported by the Huawei Audio Innovation Laboratory (HAI-Lab). His research focuses across 3D audio capture and reproduction with microphone and loudspeaker array technology. This includes techniques such as soundfield reproduction, Ambisonics and Crosstalk Cancellation, headphone-based binaural audio and HRTF personalisation as well as listener adaptive approaches including dynamic loudspeaker-based techniques.

Jacob is supported by two grants from the AES Educational Foundation, where he is also the 2018 Emil Torick Scholar, awarded to an 'outstanding student with exceptional career goals'. In summer 2018 he was also awarded the Elsevier prize for highest performance in the MSc course at the ISVR.

Research interests

Jacob’s research interests include spatial audio, binaural audio, transaural audio, loudspeaker arrays, virtual acoustics, soundfield control and signal processing.
