Dr Keith R Holland is Associate Professor at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton, where he has studied and worked continuously since 1984.

Keith is Acoustical Undergraduate Programme Lead and teaches in the following modules: Architectural & Building Acoustics, Audio & Signal Processing, Electroacoustics and System Design & Computing. His current research interests include audio, loudspeaker technology and advanced acoustical measurement techniques. He is a founder-member of the Rolls-Royce UTC in Gas Turbine Noise within ISVR, responsible for research into advanced combustion noise measurement techniques. Beyond the University, Keith is actively involved in the Institute of Acoustics, where he serves on Council and is Chair of the Electroacoustics Group. He is co-author of the book "Loudspeakers for Music Recording and Reproduction" with Philip Newell, with whom he has collaborated on numerous audio projects for over 30 years.

Career History

Having obtained an HND in Mechanical Engineering in 1978 from Bournemouth College of Technology, he worked for British Aerospace before returning to full time education at the University of Southampton in 1984. He received his BSc degree in Engineering Acoustics and Vibration in 1987 from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), University of Southampton, and his PhD for a thesis on horn loudspeakers in 1993 from the same Institute. He has worked continuously at ISVR since, as a Research Fellow until 1999 and a Lecturer until 2006 when he was promoted to Senior Lecturer and then Associate Professor.

Research interests

His research interests have included acoustic measurement techniques, aeroacoustics, aircraft sound insulation, auralisation, cinema sound, electroacoustics, duct acoustics, gas turbine noise, inverse methods, numerical modelling, reciprocity, recording studio design, room acoustics, sound quality, source location, stereo imaging, transducer design, vehicle noise, virtual audio and vibroacoustics.
