A good appraisal is about the quality of the conversation – the appraisee should do most of the talking and your PI/line manager most of the listening. Use the appraisal to constructively tackle problem areas and difficult issues as well as to highlight your achievements.

One appraisal for all ERE staff
The University’s online appraisal system provides an effective framework that supports a meaningful, two-way discussion about your progress, contribution and career development.

All research staff entitled to an annual appraisal
If you are not on probation, you should be invited to participate in the appraisal process between January and May each year. If you have not been offered an appraisal – ask your line manager for one!
