Wessex AHSN has been announced as one of the AF Association Healthcare Pioneers 2018, 'Showcasing Best Practice in AF' for their 'Starting Anticoagulation with Jack' project work.

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common heart rhythm disorder, affecting more than 16 million people around the world. Every 15 seconds someone suffers an AF-related stroke, most could be prevented using anticoagulant medication.

Starting Anticoagulation with Jack is a short information video for patients and carers explaining why anticoagulants may be prescribed and providing information on managing possible side effects. Jack, a fictional character, talks to his son about the medication, his concerns and available support available. The video has been viewed over 20,000 times.
