Professor Bob Gates

Biography

Bob was Academic and Professional Lead for Learning Disability at the University of Hertfordshire and is Visiting Professor of Learning Disabilities at the University of West London. He is consultant editor to Learning Disability Practice, and was founding editor and editor in Chief to Journal of Intellectual Disabilities. He has edited and published in excess of seventy papers, and six textbooks on a range of subjects in learning disability. He is a member of a number of editorial boards and committees, and has delivered numerous European and international lectures at a number of academic institutions; he currently provides advice to the DH on research, and other social policy initiatives. His research interests are in advocacy, challenging behaviour, families and the education and training of carers, and workforce planning. Bob is Patron of CALL - a Citizen Advocacy Scheme in Lincolnshire, and Friendly Bombs - a Slough based Theatre Group.
