WSA student exhibits at Winchester Cathedral

Published: 2 April 2010

Kate Harding, a BA Fine Art student at WSA, has created a sculpture currently on exhibit in Winchester Cathedral. Kate has made her work out of an unusual medium: bread.

Over the course of five months, using 750 slices of bread treated using a technique she learnt from art restoration, Kate has produced a huge mosaic of an oak tree in a field. The piece represents the collective work of the abbey's communities, with each slice of bread symbolic of a person.

The artwork is being shown in the exhibition 'Re-imagining Treasures of Hyde Abbey', part of Hyde900, celebrating the 900th anniversary of the founding of Hyde Abbey, the last resting place of King Alfred the Great.
