WSA Design for Ageing Exhibition Covered by ITV

Published: 4 September 2013

An ITV news team recently visited Winchester Gallery to cover the WSA Design for Ageing exhibition, which was based on a research project led by WSA academic Dr Yuanyuan Yin.

The television news item gives a fascinating insight into the 2-year project, which looked at the challenges for elderly shoppers in the UK and China and considered how innovative design could make it easier for older consumers while out shopping. It was initially screened on ITV Meridian on 22nd August and can be viewed here.

For most of us, popping to our local supermarket is something we do without thinking, but for the elderly it can be quite stressful. Things like lifting heavy items in and out of a basket and reaching high shelves can be hard work. The research team came up with a variety of possible design solutions, placed on display as part of the exhibition.

The ITV team interviewed Lecturer in Design Management Dr Yin and Professor Ashok Ranchhod, Reader in Marketing Communications, as well as a representative of Age Concern, who welcomed the project findings. Congratulations to all those involved in this project and whose work featured in the exhibition!
