GMM Students Visit to Highfield
Yesterday, Global Media Management visited the Nuffield Theatre, John Hansard Gallery, and Turner Sims Concert Hall. There were lots of great insights to help them develop their understanding of management within some specific organisational settings. The exhibition at the Hansard Gallery, Barthes/Burgin is curated by colleagues at Winchester School of Art.
Students were given in depth tours and talks about the various art locations at the main Southampton campus, producing a hugely interesting and memorable day.
The conversations extending from the value of art and public engagement to the specifics of operations and marketing were absolutely perfect for the course. They were also at the idea level for this group of students.
Aims for the day included: exploring different types of visual and performing arts; understanding how different cultural organisations operate, iincluding discussion of: funding; organisational structure; audience engagement; digital marketing; the process of taking a cultural production from idea to exhibition/performance; and, identify different jobs/roles/careers and how these connect.
Tracey Cruickshank, Connect Manager, Nuffield Theatre, said " It was lovely to see new faces in the theatre enjoying Madame Bovary, and great to chat with enthusiastic and interested students during the day about opportunities at Nuffield."
It was an informative and inspirational day, strengthening links between the work being undertaken by students at WSA with the artistic outlets provided at Highfield, just part of the continuing collaboration between us.
