Markstrat is a simulation that helps students to understand the basics of marketing. At WSA this is run for the MA students in Design Management and Advertising Management over four intensive days. In the simulation there is a world with six teams competing with each other for market dominance.

This particular simulation, recently held in the Winchester Gallery, had five worlds with six teams and tutors and PhD students to support each world.

150 students were involved in this exercise.

The student participation was excellent and they learnt a lot.

The staff involved were Giulia Zaniol, Julian Gee, Nik Mahon, Yuan Yuan Yin, Aqeel Ahmed and Ian Solway.

The PhD students from the Games Design Hub were Vanissa Wanick, James Stallwood, Noreena Liu, Christopher Buckingham, Shen Shen and Marislena Zinopoulou. Ashok Ranchhod managed and oversaw the simulation. The students felt that they really were engaged and learnt a lot in a novel manner.

Following on from this, the Gallery also played host to a number of students and staff in an interesting and eclectic Open Mic evening, an event which will surely be repeated.
