On 19th May 2016, Winchester Luxury Research Group will be hosting a seminar investigating luxury fashion, in Westside Lecture Theatre, here at Winchester School of Art.

The Rethinking Luxury Fashion Seminar will provide a forum in which to think critically about luxury, its relationship to luxury fashion and to consider luxury fashion from perspectives other than the familiar discussions of the economic ascendancy of the mega branded luxury fashion houses. The seminar will consider questions such as:

  • Are luxury fashion products simply those characterised by their high price point and wide availability?
  • Do advances in digital technology mean that exclusivity, connoisseurship, subtlety and individuality remain the essential hall marks of luxury fashion?
  • What might history tell us about the consumption of luxury fashion and its prohibition?
  • And is the concept of luxury fashion, like the idea of luxury itself, still tenable or in need of revision?
