MA Textile Design Students Intern with Samson Soboye
Two students from the MA Textile Design at WSA - Huang Zhihong (known as Lorna) and Yi Zhao (known as Joy) - have recently interned with Samson Soboye, creator of SOBOYE, an Afro Lux Brand representing African Luxury, Niche & Bespoke Fashion & Lifestyle design from the African Diaspora perspective with a strong focus on sustainability.
Joy & Lorna went to SOBOYE for a 3-week internship in April 2017. They worked on site for two days a week and at home for two days.
They were given a deep insight to the workings of the brand, helped create an invitation for an event (left) and in their final week helped with two photo-shoots, one for University of West London, Ealing and the other for a SOBOYE Look Book for the ‘Afrikimono' collection. (Photos below).
Samson himself gave a glowing report on the students and their abilities:
"Lorna and Joy of MA Textile Design at WSA, got fully involved in both shoots and helped with the styling, steaming the clothes and packing up the outfits once the shoot had ended.
They were always courteous, polite and professional [and t] heir work ethic is exemplary. They are a pleasure to work with. "
Opportunities like this are just part of what makes studying for an MA at Winchester School of Art a special and useful experience, and our students always rise to the occasion.
