Dr Dan Ashton (Pathway Leader for the MA Global Media Management in the Winchester School of Art) has been published in two international volumes.
His chapter ‘Digital Stories, Participatory Practices and Life/Britain in a Day: Framing Creativity and Debating Diversity’ will be published by Routledge in the edited book Community Filmmaking: Diversity, Innovation, Policy and Practice. The book comes out of the AHRC Community Filmmaking project, as part of which Dan presented a version of the chapter at a conference held at the British Film Institute in January 2014. His chapter ‘Media enterprise education: professional practices and everyday creativity’ Diversity’ will be published by Routledge in the edited book, The International Handbook of Media Literacy Education. This publication connects with his role on the editorial board of the Media Education Research Journal and presentations in the past at the International Media Education Summit. A special issue of journal, Convergence co-edited by Dan and colleagues from Creative Writing at Bath Spa University has been published. The special issue, titled ‘Writing digital: Practice, performance, theory’, emerges from the Mix15 conference and includes contributors from Australia, Canada, Denmark, UK and USA. Dan also recently presented a conference paper, with Karen Patel from Birmingham City University, titled ‘Vlogging labour: everyday and always on’ at The Digital Everyday: Exploration or Alienation? conference was hosted by the Centre for Digital Culture at King’s College London. Dan and Karen were part of a panel on “Digital Labour” with academics from the UK and USA. This paper presented research from a larger project that will be the focus of a chapter for an edited collection in the Palgrave Macmillan Dynamics of Virtual Work series.
