Our first Short Course of the year commenced on Tuesday evening with the Evening Art Club, which welcomed young persons aged up to 16 to join us for a range of art and design based sessions over a 10 week period, on-site here at WSA.

In their first session, each attendee explored working in large format on a canvas the size of a table! To warm up, the group worked collaboratively by spending 1 minute adding to each other's canvas, before rotating round the room and working on the next. Initially limited to only black paint, the group focused on composition and scale, then later introducing white paint to explore tone, shading and detailing.

After a group discussion about the collaborative work, each attendee then had their own large format canvas on which to further explore the themes of composition and scale, in addition to working in the fundamentals of tone and shading using only black and white. They responded to a selection of random reference photographs and images, including animals, landscapes and obscure objects.

Over the coming weeks the group with have sessions in Video Art and Editing, a Weave workshop and also Drawing with Light.
