Saturday Club Masterclass

Our Saturday Club recently welcomed artist Sinta Tantra to WSA, where she worked with our students and deliver an exciting and engaging Masterclass. During the session, our club members worked together to create a large-scale flooring installed which will be featured at the annual National Saturday Club Summer Show in June.

Sinta began the session by introducing our members to her work and discussing the wider role of public art, then explored the relationships in her work between line, colour and form. They discussed the methods and techniques she has used within her own work, at both large and small scale, including painting, masking and ‘prick and pounce’, a technique which dates back to The Renaissance and enables the artist to transfer designs to different surfaces.

The students continued to work collaboratively and then independently each working on painting their own square, a part of the much later installation. During this process the students considered how their final piece would fit within the final piece.

At the end of the session we brought together all of the individual pieces and experimented with fitting them together in different arrangements, creating completely unique and bespoke pieces of art. To end the day the students arranged the square tiles to Sinta’s original design to see how the finished floor installation would look – it looked fantastic and we can’t wait to see the finished piece installed in London for the Summer Show.
