Government and Democracy

Gefion Theurmer, graduated 2019

Gefion used her skills developed in her PhD to explore the effect of online participation behaviour in members of political parties. She worked with the Green Party, in Germany, to understand more about the tools they introduce to engage their members - how they are adopted, who adopts them, and more importantly who doesn't use them.

She says: "What was great about my work with the party was that I had a direct feedback channel for my results. I could see the impact my research was having. This was extremely rewarding and a great validation of the importance of the I was doing. My results will not only be important to the Green Party, but the themes and problems I identify will be relevant to any party or organisation that aims to use online participation tools in a democratic context.
