This Phase 3 Funding Extension scheme is to support CDT Web Science students whose research has been impacted by COVID-19, and who have not been eligible to apply through the previous Phase 1 or Phase 2 Funding Extension schemes. Full guidance about the CDT scheme is available to download below.
The funding is not intended to cover ‘time lost’ due to COVID-19, but rather to address circumstances where, despite attempts at project adaptation or mitigation, students will be unable to complete their doctoral research within their current funding period.
The maximum (unexceptional) period of funding extension is three months.
All students registered with the CDT Web Science who meet the criteria below are eligible to apply. If your studentship is not funded directly from the CDT grant e.g. WSI studentships, Faculty studentships or industry funding, co-funders will be contacted if your application is successful.
Application criteria:
The CDT Web Science Phase 3 Funding Extension scheme will open on 1 August 2021. The scheme will run during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis each month. Please apply by the end of a relevant month.
The first applications will be considered in September 2021.

Submit your application form and supporting documents to websciencecdt@soton.ac.uk by the end of the relevant month.
A CDT panel will review applications and inform you of their decision, typically within the first two weeks of each month.
Please allow sufficient time for your application to be considered and, if successful, for your funding extension to be processed, particularly if you are nearing the end of your funding period.
