Applying for PhD Study

The four year iPhD Web Science programme is no longer accepting applications.

A three year PhD programme in Web Science is offered by the School of Electronics and Computer Science. Suitable candidates may be considered for CDT funding for 2019 entry (subject to availability).

First or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in any subject.  You can see example qualifications obtained by recent students here.

Applications for iPhD Web Science should include:

  • certificates and transcripts of previous studies
  • an English language qualification (if applicable)
  • a copy of your CV or resume
  • two references
  • an outline research proposal - you do not need to provide a full research proposal or to identify a potential supervisor at this stage
  • a supporting document ‘What is Web Science?’ defining your understanding of the discipline
Application deadline

Round 1: 31 March 2018; Round 2: 31 May 2018; Round 3: 31 July 2018


All suitable applicants will be interviewed.  Successful candidates will be offered a place on the programme.


All applicants who are eligible for Home (UK/EU) fees will automatically be considered for funding.  Candidates who are awarded a studentship will be notified once funding has been allocated.
