Three of our iPHD students, Claire Walsh, Jonathan Staniforth and Sarah Hewitt spent five days in Singapore and attended The Wellness Seminar 2018.

The theme behind the invitation-only conference was ‘Wellness’. Professor Chua Tat Seng and his team at National University of Singapore (NUS), have developed an App that uses photo recognition technology to identify food and its nutritional content through photo recognition. Fun to use, it can recognise and measure hundreds of Singaporean delicacies from Pandan Cake to Chilli Crab. Linked to knowledge databases on the nutritional content of each meal, it can give you easy-to-use breakdown of what you’re eating, and areas where you might like to consider supplementing your diet. As part of a wider Collaboration with the Next++ teams, the Southampton Web Science Institute would like to train the AI to do the same for the UK diet and we hope to start this project soon!
