Ordnance Survey hosts CDT conference

Jeremy Morley, Chief Geospatial Scientist, welcomed CDT students to the Ordnance Survey Headquarters in Southampton for their annual cohort conference.

Second year PhD students presented their latest research to the other cohorts.  The session was followed by poster presentations which were open to Ordnance Survey staff.  The interdisciplinary Web Science topics included:

  • Smart, data-driven cities: Private harm for public good?
  • The role of data provenance in volunteered geographic information
  • Digital interactive narratives
  • Online engagement of populist supporters
  • Feminist Twitter: why feminists use social media as political action
  • History of innovation in Web technology
  • PBX Toll Fraud: the hidden threat of NGN telecoms
  • Privacy Challenges in the Smart Home
  • Food image recognition in dietary tracking applications
