We were delighted to have Bill Thompson who is Principle Research Engineer in Research and Development (R&D) at the BBC run a half day training event at the University of Southampton, to help develop students ability to communicate their research to the world using various types of media.

Using social media, making videos, and recording or appearing in podcasts are important ways to communicate research to the world and be more visible to the scientific community and employers. In the hands-on session, technology journalist and friend of the WSI Bill Thompson looked at ways to use social media to the best advantage (and how to cope when it goes wrong), and delivered a practical workshop on interviewing and being interviewed in sound and vision.
