Policy visit at Houses of Parliment

Four Web Science PhD students took the opportunity to try out their policy-making skills during a visit to the Houses of Parliament, organised by Public Policy Southampton. They met MPs and participated in a Treasury workshop led by the Cabinet Office Open Innovation Team. Using government expenditure data, the group were tasked with generating their own policy decisions to make budget savings in keeping with the requirements of the Government’s forthcoming Spending Review.

You can read more about their visit in a blog here.

The Cabinet Office regularly offers three month internships for the University’s CDT Web Science students to gain public sector experience and apply their individual research expertise to a range of live projects.
