CDT Web Science Students were given the opportunity to visit Singapore and participate in a NExT++ Project Workshop as part of their Web Science iPhD programme.

The trip gave Bernard Roper and Nathaniel McInnes a change to gain some experience in an international research project and share their own research interests with a wider audience, as well as meeting researchers working on a broad range of topics at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Tsinghua University.

The trip included a two day workshop around the theme of “Responsible AI and Wellness”, with sessions including Explainable and socially responsible AI, FinTech, and  Security and Privacy, Video Processing towards understanding causality and relations, and an additional session about the DietLens app.

What is NExT++?

A research collaboration between Southampton, led by Professor Dame Wendy Hall, and partners the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Tsinghua University.  The project aims to carry out in-depth research to help users and corporations cope with both big data and paradigm challenges.  See the blogs written by other CDT students here about previous workshops in Wuxi, Nanjing and Singapore
