As the MSc Web Science summer project kicked off in June, this year’s cohort took up the opportunity to attend a half day interactive training session.

Led by Impact Factory, the event was held with the intention of supporting students in building successful working relationships with their academic supervisors, prospective employers and peers.

Using a blend of theory, role playing, post-it-note brainstorming discussions and flipchart paper galore,  the group worked on a range of intriguing-sounding exercises, such as the 30 Second Influencer, the Question Funnel, the Trust Equation, Confidence by Numbers and “WIFT” (What’s In it For Them). These aimed to provide students with a portfolio of techniques to enhance their ability to listen actively, to build rapport and trust, and to communicate confidently.

This session follows on from the CDT’s Networking Skills and Media training events for PhD students held earlier in the year.
