CDT students showcase their research at WebSci’19

The 11th ACM Web Science conference (WebSci’19) took place at Northeastern University in Boston from 30 June to 3 July with the theme of "Synergies for the Good: The Web and Society”. This annual event attracts an international audience and offers researchers from multiple disciplines the opportunity to discuss a wide range of topical social and technical topics.

This year’s programme included sessions about Web content and emotional well-being; fairness and equality on the Web; user behaviour, prediction studies and information diffusion; and fake news, non-human actors and misbehaviour on the Web.
Seven CDT students were selected to present their latest interdisciplinary research at the PhD Symposium. Their topics covered:
- Entrepreneur Interactions and Relations when using Digital Platforms
- Investigating populist engagement online
- Authoring Digital Interactive Narratives
- Reviewing Patient Information Leaflets for UK Clinical Trials in the UK
- Teacher Voice in the Social Web
- Assessing performance in a gaming environment
- The role of technology in negotiating work boundaries for social media practitioners
