Clare Walsh, who is in the final stages of her Web Science PhD, was selected to represent the CDT at the annual conference, which took place in Edinburgh from 20-21 November.

Beyond is the R&D conference for the creative industries and explores the relationship between research, academia and business innovation, and tackles the challenges impacting the future of the sector. This years conference focused on the intersection between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and creativity, with themes addressing the opportunities, challenges and controversies these innovations present.

Clare, whose PhD study looks at overcoming the challenges of assessment data analysis in a hypertext environment, presented a research poster entitled 'Can we score skills fairly in a gaming environment' at the conference.

Prior to studying, Clare worked as an author on a number of globally best-selling classroom coursebooks for EFL. She trained as an examiner and exam question writer, and has worked on tests reaching thousands of children. She continues to work advising national and international bodies as an educational assessment expert once or twice a month, largely in the field of complex skills assessment.
