'The Future of work in the Age of Covid-19' with Dr Daniel Susskind

On 10 June, the WSI, in partnership with the Work Futures Research Centre hosted a virtual Distinguished Lecture. This was the first time that the WSI had hosted a Distinguished Lecture online and it was thrilled to have almost 250 participants.

Daniel gave a engaging and thought-provoking view into the relationship between the Covid-19 crisis and the challenge of automation. Drawing on his best-selling books, The Future of the Professions (OUP, 2015), and A World Without Work (Allen Lane, 2020), he set out the five stages that individuals and companies are likely to go through in recovering from this crisis, and provided advice on how to think about the months ahead.

Dr Daniel Susskind explores the impact of technology, particularly artificial intelligence, on work and society and is a Fellow in Economics at Balliol College, Oxford University, where he teaches and researches. Previously he worked in the British Government – as a policy adviser in the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit, as a policy analyst in the Policy Unit in 10 Downing Street, and as a senior policy adviser in the Cabinet Office. He was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard University.
