Dr Matthew Ryan named as new Policy Director

The Web Science Institute is delighted to announce that Dr Matthew Ryan will be joining us in the role of Policy Director, helping to showcase policy work related to the Web, Internet and other networked digital technologies performed by University of Southampton researchers, with the aim of informing policy in innovative and impactful ways.

Dr Ryan's expertise in Governance and Policy will help showcase policy work related to the Web, Internet and other networked digital technologies performed by University of Southampton researchers with the aim of informing policy in innovative and impactful ways.

About his new role, Matt says, “It’s a real honour to join the directors of WSI. The WSI has been an exemplar in building clever interdisciplinary responses to emerging threats and opportunities. I look forward to working to help our community to continue to enable innovative and impactful research contributions. In my role as Policy Director I will be developing our policy White Paper Series, to attract more high quality contributions from our global networks of colleagues, students and other stakeholders. I look forward to working closely with the Centre for Democratic Futures and Public Policy | Southampton to further embed good research evidence in public conversations and public policies for societal benefit.’

Matthew Ryan is Associate Professor in Governance and Public Policy and Director of the newly formed Centre for Democratic Futures at the University of Southampton. He will succeed Dr Kieron O'Hara who has recently retired from the University.
