The Web Science Institute is delighted to have Paul Maltby delivering the next distinguished lecture here at the University of Southampton. “Transformative Data in National Government and Local Communities” “Paul Maltby has been the Director of Data at the Government Digital Service in the Cabinet Office where his aim was to transform how government supports decision-making through data science and open data, creating improved data infrastructures that deal with data policy ethics and governance. He has now taken that experience to the Department of Communities & Local Government as the Director for Data Projects and will be sharing with us the role of data in transforming national government and local communities.” The lecture will run from 3-4pm followed by refreshments.

Paul Maltby,Department for Communities & Local Government,Paul is currently Director of Data Projects at the Department for Communities and Local Government where he is using data to open up the housing market to innovative suppliers. But for the last few years he has led the government’s new data agenda as Director of Data in the Cabinet Office’s Government Digital Service, with responsibility for open data, data science in government, data infrastructure and data legislation. He has a background in public service innovation and reform in government with spells in Leicestershire County Council, the Home Office and the PM’s Strategy Unit.
