The National Particle Physics Masterclasses

The Masterclass was attended by 80 pupils from St Swithins, South Wilts, St Anne's and King Edward VI schools and Toton and Itchen Colleges.

During the afternoon the students analyzed LEP events with two W bosons on computer to determine the number of quark colours. The worksheet for the computer lab is here and the events here . The two groups found the results:

Physics Building Group: number of colours = 2.84 +/- 0.30

Geography Building Group: number of colours = 2.94 +/- 0.41
