We are comparing apples and oranges here. The society journals that Peter
Banks is talking about are medium-sized ones - neither those belonging to
the American Chemical Society, one of the most hawkish of all publishers,
nor the ones produced on a shoestring by very small societies, but the ones
in the middle. Christopher Green, on the other hand, is talking about the
tiny ones.

The possible long-term effects of green OA on these different categories
of society journals are likely to vary. But for those of us who wish
learned societies, large and small, well in the longer term, it is not too
soon to begin speculating about these issues.
