Dear colleagues,

last week we have updated our search engine BASE (http://www.base-search.net),
which offers a new designed web interface according to standards from
Bielefeld UL and new advanced search options. In the advanced search you can
now limit your search to a lot of document types, like books, journal
articles, reports, theses, reviews, audio, video, images, primary data and
others. In order to offer this search options, we are normalizing the
according OAI-Metadata information if possible.

In addition BASE is still the only search engine for OAI Metadata which works
with cross-language retrieval. The Eurovoc Thesaurus enables you to search a
term in up to 21 languages not matter which language you use. There are 6,500
basic terms for every language, all in all 239,000 terms are
included in the thesaurus.

The number of indexed sources has grown up to more than 1,080 so that we have
reached the number of indexed sources in OAIster. This morning we are even a
little bit ahead of OAIster.

About BASE:

BASE is the name of the search engine for
scientific open access documents which was created and
developed by Bielefeld University Library. At present BASE
includes some 15.9 million documents originating from 1,088 content providers.
