Normally powered down, woken by realtime clock, reads sensors and stores data. When it can communicate with base it responds to commands
Again is woken by realtime clock. Stores data from probes and sensors. Sends data either to ref station via radio modem or if that fails, via SMS to southampton. Opens a channel for ref station to get DGPS files. only 200 microamps when sleeping.
radio modems were ordered and installed running at 466MHz, 500mW. These also had a certain amount of built-in error correction.
This includes the base station board (big one on top left)
To avoid an unreliable wake-up command system systems run autonomously according to a time schedule
