Training and Development for Volunteers

Training and development is a key part of volunteering.  We offer training and development sessions to help ensure that you are not only well prepared for your placement, but that you are also able understand and articulate what you’ve gained from the experience. 


Introduction to Volunteering in the UK and Abroad

These sessions are open to everyone.

If you aren't sure what to expect from volunteering and want to know more about what volunteering is and what opportunities are available to you then there are a number of 'Introduction to Community Volunteering' sessions being run by Career Destinations.  These occur periodically throughout the year and you do not have to be registered with Community Volunteering in order to attend. 


Community Volunteering Training Workshop

Please note that these were formally known as General Training Sessions.

Attendance at a Training Workshop is compulsory for all Volunteers.

Everyone attending a Training Workshop should already be registered with Community Volunteering.  You can do this at:

When you register with Community Volunteering you will be sent an email inviting you to sign up for a Training Workshop.  This session will go over the policies and procedures you will need to be aware of, discuss any concerns you have, give you a chance to start to recognise what skills you will be developing through your volunteering and identify three main things you want to have achieved at the end of your placement.  The slides from this session can be downloaded from this website but attendance is compulsory for all volunteers.  The next session is:

  • Wednesday 11th January, 12-1pm
  • Wednesday 18th January, 2-3pm
  • Thursday 26th January, 1-2pm

Handbook and Safeguarding Policy

The Handbook and Safeguarding Policy are emailed to everyone on completion of their Training session.
