Student Parking Permits

Montefiore HallsYou may apply for a permit for an academic campus * if:

- You are registered as a student.

- You have set up your University computing account at https://subscribe.iss.soton.ac.uk/subscribe.html . Once you have applied your account is normally active within 15 minutes.

- You are disabled, have medical needs or have extenuating reasons which make it necessary to bring a car to campus.

Demand for car parking permits is far greater than supply. Southampton-based students who do not qualify for a permit to park at the Highfield or Avenue Campuses may apply to park at Montefiore at Wessex Lane.  There is a regular unilink bus service from Wessex Lane to the campuses.  Alternatively, students studying at Highfield may prefer to walk.  Student permits expire at the end of the summer vacation. Reminders that permits are due to expire are not sent to students. Permit charges and permit availability vary depending on the campus. Part year refunds are available if a permit is surrendered during the session. ‘One day a week’ permits may be available and there may also be permits which are valid for one month.

Unless you have been granted a permit, you may not park on campus unless you have paid to park in the Pay and Display area at Highfield.

You do not need a permit to park a motor cycle or scooter but it must not be parked in an area used for car parking.

* Students seeking a permit to park at the Waterfront Campus should apply at the NOCS Helpdesk (tel. 023 80596666) or sent to facilities@noc.ac.uk.

You may apply for a permit for a Hall of Residence if:

* You are registered as a student

* You have set up your University computing account at https://subscribe.iss.soton.ac.uk/subscribe.html. Once you have applied your account is normally active within 15 minutes

* You are not a first year student unless any of these exceptional situations arise:

Medical reasons. A letter will need to be supplied from your GP or Hospital Consultant confirming that use of a car is relevant to your condition.

Compassionate grounds. This will need supporting documentation from e.g. a social worker and all cases are considered individually.

Participation in elite level sport. Supporting letters will be required from the relevant National Governing Body, Sport England or, the Athletics Union.

Please note that working part-time does not provide adequate grounds for a parking permit.

Supporting documentation should be sent to the Car Parking Manager, Estates & Facilities, University of Southampton, Highfield, Southampton.

Unless you have been granted a permit, you may not park at Hall.

You do not need a permit to park a motor cycle or scooter but it must not be parked in an area used for car parking.
