ESRC Research Grant: Teaching the visual system to segment and interpret images of overlapping transparent objects
A team from the Centre for Visual Cognition (Professors Donnelly and Liversedge and Dr Menneer) has been awarded £540,000 from the ESRC.
The project investigates how the visual system learns to recognize objects shown in cluttered x-ray images. These types of images are commonly shown in, for example, x-ray security screening. The project is a collaborative one with colleagues at Durham University (Dr Holliman) and University of Massachusetts Amherst (Professor Kyle Cave).
